Test Run #2

One of the best things about building the EV is that we have to test it. The more we drive it, the better we'll be able to tune it to perform. So far I think things are looking pretty good. Here is a sample of a test run conducted on a closed course, of course.

Any comments?

  1. I've been following the videos and I'm really impressed. You guys (well, Chester, at least) are doing great work!

Any plans for the dead tach?

  2. Just wondering: is this a manual transmission car? I'd jump at a MINI hybrid/electric that retains the fun and control of a manual.

  3. @blalor Tristan and Chester are really doing a great job! The tach will either output the RPMs, or it will be replaced with something that will. @bettehead The RPM readout will be essential because it is a manual transmission car with a working clutch. Just because is has enough torque that you 'could' drive it in third gear all the time, that doesn't mean 'should'.

  4. How do you know when to shift??

  5. You know when to shift based on the RPMs just like normal. We had a computer output of the motor RPMs on this test run.
